РОДИНА НА ЦИВИЛИЗАЦИИ И ПРИРОДНИ ЧУДЕСА

Праисторически следи
и артефакти се намират из цялата територия на днешна България, наред с безброй
природни чудеса. На миниатюна площ са събрани море, реки, кристални езера и десетки планини, плодородни долини, уникални скални феномени, множество минерални извори, съхранени девствени обиталища на редки животни и прелетни магистрали на птици.

Когато първите
човеци, родом от Африка, започват да мигрират, избират за пръв свой дом в Европа пещерата Козарника край Белоградчик. Международна експедиция откри там следи от най-старите европейци, обитавали тази
територия преди повече
от 1,4 милиона години. 

На територията на българските земи се е развила най-старата
от европейските праисторически цивилизации. Доказват го находките от над 400 селищни могили. Карановската могила например е обитавана в продължение на няколко хилядолетия още от ранната новокаменна епоха и неслучайно нейната хронологична система служи за еталон при синхронизацията на европейските праисторически култури.

Сензационни открития непрекъснато изместват назад във
времето възрастта на
неолитната култура в българските земи, а любознателните могат да се докоснат до нея в две консервирани жилища в Стара Загора с най-добре запазена покъщнина и оръдия на труда от онова време в цяла Европа.

Ранната цивилизация, чийто плод е
най-старото познато обработено злато на Земята – открито във Варненския
халколитен некропол – предхожда тези на Месопотамия и Древния Египет поне с хилядолетие. Към това могат да се добавят и първите медни рудници,
най-старите солници и най-древната каменна архитектура на континента, както и първите писмени знаци и прото-календари.

По-късно на Балканите живеят най-старите
исторически доказани обитатели на полуострова – тракийски племена. През дълъг период от време те развиват своята култура, достигнала разцвета си през IV–III
в. пр. Хр. От нея в днешна България са останали мегалитни светилища, селища, хиляди тракийски могили с погребения и ценни златни и сребърни съкровища, които обикалят триумфално света. Боговете от пантеона на траките са възприети и преосмислени от древните гърци, а чрез тях преминават и във
вярванията на древните римляни.

Митичният певец Орфей – тракийски цар-жрец, остава в културата на човечеството чрез религиозната система на орфизма и мита за безсмъртната му любов с Евридика, пресътворяван векове наред от най-известните европейски поети.

Невъзможно е да се направи бърз пробег по историята на кръстопътната българска земя, защото хилядолетията са отложили множество културни пластове в нея, а знаците им са видими навсякъде.

Древна Гърция създава свои колонии по Черноморския бряг, по-късно Римската империя изгражда цветущи градове из страната и вдига отбранителни крепости край Дунав. Роденият в днешния град Сандански Спартак – вожд на тракийското племе меди, оглавява като римски пленник и гладиатор най-голямото въстание на робите в Древния Рим и остава в световната култура като олицетворение на човешкия порив за свобода.

На днешните български територии времето
забърква магическа смес от
цивилизации. През IV в. в земите й се заселват
вестготите. Постепенно и славянски племена пренасят тук домовете си. През VII в. прабългарският кан Аспарух принуждава Източната Римска империя – Византия, да признае първата българска държава. Неговите наследници я разширяват и установяват хегемонията й на Балканския полуостров. България се утвърждава като една от трите велики сили на Европа през IX в., заедно с Византийската и Франкската империя.

Може да се каже, че България е най-старата от днешните европейски национални държави, защото нито една от съществувалите по онова време не може да бъде пряко отъждествена с наследилите я на същата територия съвременни държави. България единствена е запазила и името си от самото си основаване до днес.

Два века византийско владичество предхождат Второто българско царство, което възстановява до голяма степен територията и мощта на Първото. В Средните векове то е един от стожерите на православието и славянската култура, чийто духовен разцвет повлиява целия регион.

Ана – дъщерята на великия княз на Киевска Рус Ярослав Мъдрия, която през ХІ в. омъжили за крал Анри І, занесла със
себе си Библия, която и
сега се пази в прочутата катедрала на гр. Реймс. Почитана била като изключителна реликва, пред която са се клели френските крале. Дълго обаче никой не разбирал езика й, докато пристигналият на посещение Петър Велики не започнал да чете от нея. Била написана на азбуката, създадена от братята Кирил и Методий.

През петте века османско владичество българската държава не съществува, но в народа не угасва жаждата за независимост. Удавената в кръв Априлска епопея от 1876 г. отново привлича към тази изстрадала земя вниманието на света, забравил, че тя е люлка на европейската цивилизация.

Руско-турската освободителна война от 1877-1878 г. поставя на картата на Европа Княжество България, а постигнатото въпреки Великите сили съединение с Източна Румелия донася през 1885 г. жадуваното единение на изконни български земи и население.

Двадесети век за България е изпълнен с бурни обрати: войни, преврати, диктатура. Новата й история е белязана от 45 години тоталитаризъм, който приключва в
края на 80-те години.
От 2007 г. родината на първите европейци е част от общността на Европейския съюз и вписва в него уникалния си образ. Най-древната европейска държава влива в могъщия дъх на Стария континент своя вечно млад дух.

BIRTHPLACE TO CIVILIZATIONS AND NATURAL MIRACLES

There
are traces of human presence from all eras in the lands of modern-day Bulgaria.
Nature has also chosen it as a canvas for its masterpieces, assembling within
such a tiny area a huge gallery of seascapes, rivers, crystal clear lakes,
dozens of mountain ranges, fertile valleys, unique rock formations, mineral
springs, virgin habitats for rare animals, and migratory highways for wild
birds.

When
ancient humans began to migrate out of Africa and settle the world, their first
home on the continent of Europe was the Kozarnika cave near Belogradchik.

An
international expedition discovered signs of the oldest European settlers
dating back more than 1.4 million years.

It
is a known fact that the oldest and most brilliant European prehistoric
civilizations once flourished within the Bulgarian lands. This has been proven
by the excavations of more than 400 settlement mounds. The Karanovo settlement
was inhabited for several millennia from the early Neolithic age. The
chronological system discovered there serves as a model for the synchronization
of European prehistoric cultures. With more and more sensational discoveries, it
has been possible to date the Neolithic culture in the Bulgarian lands even
further back in time. Two well-preserved Neolithic homes in Stara Zagora
contain some of the best-preserved examples of Neolithic household items and
tools in all of Europe.

The
early civilization from the Varna Chalcholitic necropolis, which produced the
oldest known hand-worked gold in the world, predates Mesopotamia and Ancient
Egypt by at least one thousand years. We may add to these the first copper
mines, the oldest salt production, and the oldest stone architecture on the
continent, as well as the first written signs and calendars.

The
Thracian tribes—the oldest proven
inhabitants of the peninsula—settled in the Balkans at a later date. Over a
long period of time they developed their own culture, achieving the height of
their prosperity in the 4^th through 3^rd century BC.
Traces of this culture can still be found in modern-day Bulgaria in the forms
of megalithic temples, settlements, Thracian burial mounds, and priceless gold and
silver treasures, which are viewed around the world with admiration and
delight. The gods from the Thracian pantheon were accepted and redefined by the
Ancient Greeks and, at a later stage, the Ancient Romans. The Thracian Oracle
King and mythical singer, Orpheus, was passed down into the culture of mankind
through the religious system of Orphism and the myth of his immortal love for
Eurydice. Their legend was recreated over subsequent centuries by some of the
most famous European poets.

It
is impossible to take a quick dash through the history of the Bulgarian lands
as they stand at the crossroads of history. They contain the traces of
thousands of years of cultural influence, signs of which can still be seen
everywhere in modern-day Bulgaria. Ancient Greece created its colonies along
the Black Sea coast, and later the Roman Empire constructed prosperous cities
throughout the country and defensive fortresses along the Danube. Spartacus was
born in the modern-day city of Sandanski. He was the leader of the Maedi, a
Thracian tribe, and, after being captured by the Romans and training as a
gladiator, he led the greatest slave rebellion in Ancient Rome. He remains in
world culture as the embodiment of the human passion for freedom.

In
the burning hearth of Bulgarian history, time has concocted a magical mixture
of civilizations. In the 4^th century, the Visigoths settled in the
Bulgarian lands and the Slav tribes gradually began to make their home there.
In the 7^th century, the proto-Bulgarian Khan Asparukh forced the
Eastern Roman Empire to recognize the first Bulgarian state. His successors
later expanded it and established its hegemony on the Balkan Peninsula. In the
9^th century, Bulgaria became one of the three great powers in Europe
along with the Eastern Roman Empire and the Frankish empire. It may also be
said that Bulgaria is the oldest of the present-day European nation states—none
of the states that existed at that time can be directly associated with the
modern-day countries occupying the same territories.

Bulgaria
alone has preserved its name from the date of its founding to the present day.

Two
centuries of Roman rule preceded the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, which restored
to a great extent the territory and might of the First. During the Middle Ages,
it was one of the bastions of Orthodoxy and Slavonic culture, whose spiritual
flourishing influenced the entire region. Ana, the daughter of Yaroslav the
Wise, the Great Prince of Kievan Rus, married King Henry I in the 9^thcentury and took with her a Bible, which is preserved in the cathedral in Reims
to this day. It was considered to be an exceptional holy relic and the French
kings swore their oaths before it. For centuries, however, no one understood
the language it was written in until Peter the Great visited the city and began
reading from it. It was written in the alphabet created by the two brothers,
Saints Cyril and Methodius.

During
the five centuries of Ottoman rule, the Bulgarian state ceased to exist but the
people never lost their hunger for independence.

The
blood-soaked April uprising brought the attention of the world to this
long-suffering land—a world that had forgotten that Bulgaria was once the
cradle of European civilization.

The
Russo-Turkish war liberated the Bulgarian state (or whatever) and placed the
Principality of Bulgaria back on the map of Europe. In 1855, despite the
opposition of the Great Powers, the Principality’s consolidation with Eastern
Rumelia led to the unification of the ancient Bulgarian lands and the Bulgarian
people, which is something the Bulgarians greatly desired.

The
20^th century for Bulgaria was filled with tempestuous events: wars,
coups, and dictatorship. The most recent history of Bulgaria was marked by 45
years of totalitarianism, which came to an end in the fateful days of the
1980s. Since 2007, the birthplace of the first Europeans has been a member of
the great community of Europe and has contributed to its development with its
unique image. The most ancient European state has breathed its eternally young
breath into the mighty spirit of the Old Continent.
